Most people worry about two types of relationships: romantic relationships (dating, marriage) and friendships. We can choose who we want to date and we can choose who we want to be friends with. What you want from a relationship can be completely different from what someone else wants from a relationship.

Most people want these needs to be met in the relationship: respect, appreciation, safety, security, control, similar interests, attraction, fun.

If you think you don't want anything from a relationship, you need to think again. Sometimes people don't know what they want, they just want a relationship. Others know what they want but affraid to admit it to themselves and others.

For example, if a woman says she wants a "friendship only" with a man and asks him how he feels about it. A man can say he wants a friendship too but deep down he means that he is ok with friendship now but hopes for more later.

The fact is that women love being friends with men, but men would rather have a romantic relationship instead of just friendship. Most men aren't excited about being a true friend, most men are looking for attraction and more than friendship with women.
