How hard is to become a model
How hard is to become a mode? To become a model is not as easy as most people think. Tall women get so many comments like "You should be a model!" and it seems that people think just because a woman is tall and thin it would be easy for her to become a model. A lot of women pursue modeling career by going to modeling agencies, castings and etc but don't become next Cindy Crawford or Claudia Schiffer anyway.
It's very surprising. As most people, I thought every tall woman can become a model if she is tall and skinny, but I was wrong. Modeling agencies and their clients often chose girls who are just 5'7" or 5'8" feet tall, so I guess it's just a myth that models should be very tall. You need to know that there is a lot of competition.
My tall height lead me to opportunity to start this wonderful website and help many people around the world, it's a lot more rewarding. I can encourage people, help them to believe in themselves and I love doing it.
I believe many people who work ordinary jobs had big dreams at one point of their lives. For example, maybe you wanted to become a car race driver when you were younger, or maybe you wanted to become a great singer or famous actress? It's always good to dream big and try hard but makes me wonder sometimes why do some people make it and others don't.
Modeling and rejection
Many people think tall skinny women should be models, so they try modeling because of everyone's encouragement. Most people don't realize that models face a lot of rejection. Models are rejected all the time, because there are always many beautiful girls and only a few modeling jobs. Tall women rarely realize that their good looks and tall height wouldn't impress people very much...Models have to deal with rejection a lot, so don't be surprised but accept it as part of success.
All of the rejection that tall women faced before makes them wonder whether they look good...They think maybe they didn't look good enough, maybe, maybe they were too tall, or maybe she wasn't thin enough...Please complement and ecourage tall women because being beautiful woman isn't just enough to get what you want in life. Good looks help but it's not everything.
For example, look at "America's next top model" show. It's really nice that Tyra Banks tries to help girls to make it big but think about how many girls get rejected and only one is a winner. Being tall and beautiful isn't the only requirement for being a supermodel. You have to have a good personality, communication skills, be photogenic, pose well, stay young and more...Even on her show you rarely see girls who are 6 ft tall.
I remember there was one 6 ft tall girl on "America's next top model" and judges told her that she looks awkward or weird because she is so tall. I guess they wanted to encourage her to present herself better but it sounded really offensive in my opinion. They should be glad that at least one girl was really tall, but instead of making her feel better, they just made it worse.
I'm sure they said that because they didn't want to favor anyone, and treat all models the same, but I wish people would be more sensitive to extremely tall girls.
Average age for a model
Another problem in modeling is age. Most people don't know that agencies are looking for models up to 23 years old, anything more than that they are not interested. It's good if you are 14 y.o. to start modeling career, but when you are 20-something it gets much harder.
I remember I was watching another modeling show on tv and a judge told a beautiful 20-something woman, " You are too old for modeling!" A judge tried to be honest, but still sounded horrible because a girl didn't look wrinkled or old at all. Most people don't know about all these limitation about modeling, that's why I'm writing about it to present what it's like.
Look at Tyra Banks. She basically "retired" from modeling at 28 y.o.! So, it sounds like 28 y.o. in modeling it's like 65 in other jobs. I'm sure there are some older models who are 40 something but they aren't as famous and aren't as rich in their careers.
Modeling in big cities
If you live in a big city and try to become a model, it's good for you. Not many people can afford to live in a big city and have time for modeling. If you moved right now to New York, or L.A., your lifestyle could drop unless you have a lot of money or don't mind sacrificing your lifestyle for your dream.
So, location is big part for a modeling career too. If you are young, try what you can. If you have a big desire in your heart, of course try it. It's better try than never try. I tried modeling and didn't work out for me when I was young, I still have a very good life and love what I do, so I don't really regret anything.
I want to encourage girls to be realistic, follow your heart and try despite all the odds. If it meant be for you, you will become a model...but you'll never find out until you go try it! So, have courage, try it, and let it all up to God.
And remember, you run your own race, you don't have to be just like somebody else. Measure your own success and appreciate what you achieved.
